Ricky is just an awesome guy. I came to him with some guitar experience, but a want to learn lead guitar, and after only a couple lessons (and jam sessions of course) I was able to pick up on soloing and have a much better understanding of music theory.   Ricky is an amazing guitarist with loads of experience gigging and teaching, and it really shows in his lessons. I’ve been wanting to take guitar lessons for over a year after winning this great guild guitar and I haven’t found anyone that I could really connect with. Took a few classes but from day one I didn’t feel a connection and to me thats the most important thing.
Day one with Ricky was great. We discussed the different kinds of music that I wanted to play and he even asked to listen to some of my favorite songs to get an idea of my style and we started immediately. It’s only been about two months and I can already play a good handful of songs and my confidence has gone up tremendously.

This review is for anyone just starting out on guitar or the experienced guitarist trying to reach that next level. My son and I started with Ricky in January 2014. I wasn’t sure at 53 how tough it would be to make any progress, but Ricky makes it fun and I’m really hooked and look forward to my weekly lessons. My son who is 18 has made amazing progress under Rickys tutelage and really enjoys working with Ricky as well. If you’re thinking about starting lessons, give Ricky a call you won’t regret it.

I started with Ricky in May with no guitar experience and being a 29 year old busy high school mathematics teacher. I was really worried because I am not a huge fan of rock music and I wanted to learn to play guitar to popular songs from various genres. I am not looking to be a professional either, just jam with some friends. Ricky is always focused on personalizing my lessons to any song I am listening to at the time from RnB all the way to EDM trap music songs. His focus is on having fun while you learn and my only homework is to make sure I take the guitar out of the bag so I can play it as often as possible. Ricky is also flexible with times and dates, as long as you email within a reasonable amount of time he will respond quickly and accommodate whatever may come up in your life. My suggestion is that you give Ricky one trial lesson for $30 or so and you’ll feel why he should be your instructor.

Ricky has been my guitar instructor for the past 2 months. I used to play a lot when I was younger, and Ricky has been instrumental (no pun intended), in helping me both jump-start playing again as well as navigate into uncharted musical waters. Ricky Katz is an extraordinary teacher. He has decades worth of guitar experience, and he is affordable. He genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his students, and goes above and beyond to get the student excited about the instrument. Ricky is a very energetic and engaging teacher. He focuses on teaching the guitar techniques and styles you want to learn. Ricky is well-organized and has large amounts of prepared material for teaching. He will also prepare new material that suits your interests..
Many people want to sing when they play the guitar and Ricky will tell you he is not a vocalist. But his voice is not as bad as he thinks.
